Defeat Hormonal Breakouts

One of the tall tell signs that you are about to start your period is that you will get a lovely little visitor someone on your face. Usually, it pops up in the most awkward place imaginable. Like the tip of your nose or smack dab in the middle of your forehead.

Although there is no surefire absolute way to guarantee that you will NEVER in life experience the horror of getting a blemish or a pimple again, there are some things you can do to decrease your chances of getting those monthly hormonal breakouts. Today I am going to share with you my top 4 Hacks on how to beat period breakouts.

Hack #1 Cleanse Your Skin after Workouts and Hot Sweaty Days.

Ok, so this is not life changing advice but it’s pretty simple and basic and something I feel everyone forgets. Taking the time to cleanse your face or take a shower after your workout or any activity that causes you to break out into a stage 4 sweat. If you live in a hot and humid area you know what I’m saying. But taking the time to cleanse your skin can help decrease the likelihood of you developing breakouts and blemishes. Chances are you’ve worked up a sweat and while sweating is a great way for your body to cleanse and rid itself of toxins, regulate body temperature and get rid of cellular debris, if allowed to just sit there on top of your skin you’re going to clog your pores with all the bacteria and gunk that your body is trying to get rid of. This is especially true if you are wearing makeup during your workout or you have on makeup after spending time outside sweating. The sweat mixing with whatever makeup you’re wearing will cause clogged pores and lead to breakout city. So cleanse and cleanse well! This would be the perfect time to use an exfoliating cleanser that contains salicylic acid to help remove excess dirt and oil and clear out clogged pores.

Hack # 2 Drink More Water.

This is another simple yet effective tip. Drinking water helps to maintain hydrated skin. It is also important for aiding in the transportation of various nutrients to the body including the skin, and water is responsible for flushing out toxins and waste products from the body. Getting enough water can help flush out bacteria and hydrate skin. Both of which can prevent the onset of breakouts and pimples.

Hack # 3 Exfoliate and Mask.

A week or 2 before your period start giving yourself weekly mini spa treatments at home or visit your local spa. Exfoliating the skin during this time will slough off any dead skin cells that could clog the pores and helps to refresh the skin. Applying a mask that will help to purify and nourish the skin by infusing skin clearing benefits can also help to promote a bright and clear complexion. Not to mention the extra pampering during this time will feel especially glorious.

Hack #4 Go Easy on the Makeup.

Don’t shoot me! For some ladies, makeup is the ultimate form of artistry and expression, which is absolutely fine. BUT, when you are trying to prevent unnecessary breakouts especially during that time of the month when your body is just eager to pop pimples all over your face, it might be a good idea to ease up on the heavy foundation application. Using BB Creams or CC creams in conjunction with powder foundations might be a better option. Spot treating areas of concerns and using powder foundation could be another option. Just allowing your skin to breathe and giving it a break could do wonders and prevent breakouts from popping up. Another tip if you enjoy wearing foundation you can opt to use a skin clearing foundation that contains salicylic acid so this will aid in preventing pores from clogging and minimize breakouts.
