Dry, Dehydrated Skin

Due to the aging process, it is not uncommon to experience issues with dry, dehydrated skin. There are a variety of reasons that could be causing you to experience dry, dehydrated skin. Certain chronic health conditions such as diabetes can contribute to dry, dehydrated skin. Medications that you take to manage chronic health conditions can also contribute to drying out skin and causing it to become dehydrated. Aside from chronic health conditions and medication, poor nutrition, not taking care of your skin properly or using products that cause your skin to become dry are other factors to consider if you find that you are suffering from excessive dry, dehydrated skin.

Discovering what could be causing your skin to become dry and dehydrated can help you in addressing what is causing your skin issues. Also making simple changes in your wellness routine can help you properly restore lost moisture and replenish vital hydration to your skin. I am going to teach you five simple changes you can make in your skin health routine that can help you accomplish hydrated, glowing skin.

Drink More Water

When it comes to proper hydration making sure that you are drinking enough water is vitally important. Water is responsible for replenishing all the cells within the body and promoting proper fluid balance. This means that if you are not drinking enough water that the cells in your body are not properly replenished. One of the first signs that this is an issue for you is if you struggle with skin that is consistently dry and dehydrated no matter how much moisturizer you use. You might want to check to see if you are getting enough water each day. You should aim to consume at least 8 cups of water per day.

If you find drinking water challenging try creating fruit infused water with berries, mint, lemon or cucumber. Find a recipe that you would like the most and give it a try it’s a natural and refreshing way to improve the taste of water and is a super healthy way of getting more nutrients from various fruits and herbs.

Adjust Your Skincare Products

Sometimes you could be using products that are not a good fit for your skin and they could be causing your skin to become dry and dehydrated or they just may not be infusing your skin with the moisture it needs. If you have issues with dry skin try avoiding products that are fast absorbing, lightweight or oil-free. These types of products are best for someone with an oilier skin type. Instead, reach for products that focus on replenishing moisture, are rich and creamy and have rich moisturizing oils such as jojoba oil, argan oil, coconut oil, and shea butter.

Make sure your skin care routine consists of a hydrating cleanser that won’t dry out your skin, a hydrating serum for day and night, a moisturizing day cream that contains SPF 30 or higher, and a rich and thick night cream.

Switch to Hydrating Makeup Products

There is an abundance of makeup products on the market that all help to moisturize and maintain hydration levels for skin types that are prone to dryness. Making sure that you are using these products is another helpful way to ensure you are properly taking care of your skin. Using hydrating primers, foundations, concealers, and blush can help with moisture retention while also helping to nourish your skin and give you a soft glowing and healthy appearance.

Practice Weekly At Home Skin Care Treatments

It’s important to visit with a skin professional to make sure that you are taking care of your skin properly, but you should also do what you can in your individual skin care regimen to make sure that you are maximizing the results you are getting in the treatment room. This could be as simple as following an at-home skin care regimen that includes a weekly gentle exfoliation that helps to get rid of dead, flaky skin cells and applying a hydrating mask designed to nourish and replenish your skin.

Use Hydrating Sprays & Mists

There are a variety of toners and facial mists on the market that you can spray on your face throughout the day to help infuse moisture into your skin. Many of these mists can be used on top of your regular everyday makeup. Carry one of these facial mists in your purse for a quick spritz when your skin is feeling tight or like it needs a moisture boost.

Bonus Tip!

Pay Attention to Seasonal Changes & Climate Changes

The change of the seasons can have an effect on your skin’s moisture level. Especially if you are transitioning from warmer weather to much colder weather. Also moving from an area with a warm, humid climate to an area with a dry climate will affect the moisture balance of your skin. In the summer sitting in a heavily air-conditioned area can also dry out your skin. Becoming aware of your environment and how it can have an effect on your skin’s moisture balance and adjusting your skin care routine or your habits accordingly can help with moisturizing your skin.

These are all some pretty simple and straightforward tips on how you can improve your skin’s moisture and hydration levels. As always make small incremental changes and evaluate to see what works the best for your skin.
