Aging Naturally

While progressive anti-aging treatments are great for decreasing the signs and symptoms of premature aging and are great at providing instant results. These types of treatments are not always economical and available to everyone that is seeking to age gracefully and preserve their youthful appearance. There are some simple and effective things you can do on your own at home that can help prevent aging and encourage healthy aging by decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Here are 7 simple tips you can put into practice today to defy aging naturally.

Tip #1: Wear SPF Daily.

Using a broad spectrum sunscreen that contains a sun protection factor(SPF) of 30 or higher will protect your skin from the aging effects the sun’s rays have on the deep layers of the dermis which are responsible for causing skin wrinkling and age spots become visible on the skin as you enter in the aging process. Learn more anti-aging sunscreen facts and check out the video Simple Sunscreen Tips to Defy Premature Aging.

Tip #2: Consume Healthy Fats.

Including a variety of foods such as fatty cold water fish (salmon, mackerel, tuna) and avocados are not only great for improving your nutrition but they contain healthy fats that help to naturally hydrate and moisturize skin while decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Tip #3: Eat Your Antioxidants.

Eating foods that are rich in antioxidants will help to decrease oxidative stress within the body. Oxidative stress is one of the factors that contribute to the aging process.  Drinking antioxidant-rich teas such as Green Tea, Black Tea, and Oolong tea, as well as eating a variety of berries such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and cherries. Dark chocolate is also another great source of antioxidants in particular dark chocolate that contains 70%cocoa or higher.

Tip #4: Use Face Masks Weekly.

Taking time each week to apply a hydrating and nourishing face mask that is full of antioxidants, collagen, peptides, and other skin beneficial nutrients will keep your skin hydrated, glowing, plump and decrease fine lines and wrinkles. Discover why I believe proper skin health and wellness practices are important for preventative health and anti-aging and why it’s one of my main areas of focus in my wellness coaching.

Tip #5: Use High-Performance Cosmetics.

You want to truly get serious about improving your skin’s appearance, decreasing wrinkles, and anti-aging. Start using skin care products that are designed with quality ingredients that are designed to address your unique skin care concerns. That means becoming more mindful and conscious about what you are using and looking for products that will help with your specific skin concerns such as decreasing the appearance of wrinkles, improving skin tone, as well as helping to plump skin. Using products such as treatment serums, and face creams that are designed to help with stimulating collagen production, deliver antioxidants, smooth wrinkles and improve skin tone. Choosing foundations that have anti-aging benefits and include antioxidants and help to hydrate your skin throughout the day.  The more quality skin care you use the better your skin will look and the fewer wrinkles you will notice.

Tip #6: Regular Self Facial-Massage.

One of the reasons why your skin care specialist spends so much time massaging the product into your skin is to help aid in the penetration of the products being applied to your face during the facial. You can implement this super easy technique at home when using your own skin care products. Take time in the evening to massage your serum, eye cream and face cream into your skin. Your skin will appear plumper in appearance and the product will also penetrate into the skin much better allowing the ingredients and nutrients in your skincare to become that much more effective. It’s also great to use tools such as a jade roller to aid in the penetration of your serums and skin care products. I discuss important self-care habits in this Facebook video Why Self-Care Matters for Optimal Well-Being.

Tip #7: Get Enough Sleep.

Getting quality sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your skin and for your health. Sleep helps to renew and rejuvenate the body and this includes your skin. Aiming to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night will result in your skin looking refreshed and rejuvenated.
