Beta-carotene is a powerful antioxidant that when consumed the body converts to Vitamin A. Getting enough Vitamin A is important if you are looking to decrease the signs and symptoms of aging. It is responsible for stimulating collagen production and decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Some fruits and veggies that contain beta-carotene are Apples, Carrots, and Sweet Potatoes

Defeat Free Radicals

Free radicals are responsible for causing oxidative stress in the body by causing damage to cells, proteins, and DNA. This causes visible signs of aging to become noticeable on the skin. Consuming antioxidant-rich foods prevent oxidation from occurring while removing the agents responsible for the oxidative response from the body. Foods that contain a high amount of antioxidants are garlic, berries, pomegranates and dark chocolate (70% cocoa).

Hydrate & Moisturize

There are foods that are naturally designed to help improve your skin’s ability to remain hydrated and improve moisture retention thanks to vitamins such as pantheonic acid, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. Eating sweet potatoes, pomegranates and dark chocolate (70% cocoa) can help to moisturize and hydrate your skin from the inside out.

While it will always be important to apply sun protection in the form of SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin from the effects of the UV rays. You can also consume foods rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that will help to protect your skin from UV damage naturally. Carrots, sweet potatoes, and dark chocolate (70% cocoa) are just a few of the yummy foods you can add into your diet that can aid in protecting your skin from excessive sun damage.
